3D Shapes?
Posted by Michael C on July 27, 2007 at 12:21 amIs there anyway to create 3D shapes? Other than the pen tool I mean. What about a sphere or cylinder? I am working on an animation where I want my object to look like a circle but then the camera changes position to reveal it is a cylinder. Doesn’t sound too hard, but I am having some trouble with it. Thanks

July 27, 2007 at 12:33 amNot really there yet- though you can fake planar objects like cubes with some imagination. I’d recommend a 3D app for that sort of stuff.

July 27, 2007 at 8:57 pmThis is the difference between a “2.5-D” app, like Motion, AE, Combustion or Shake, and a true 3-D app. A true 3-D app will give you these kinds of primitives to use as building blocks, a 2.5-D app will not.

Motion is not a real 3D but you can “pretend” with it. I did it with some DVD boxes on a video.
With the link below you can see it. It is almost in the end of this 20s clip.

October 4, 2011 at 4:07 pmHaving a 3D camera, 3d Groups, but only 2D attributes on lines is totally stupid.
If the Apple people would have looked over the defacto standard for animation, 3ds Max;
they would have seen that lines handles could be manipulated on all 3 axises.Also, the y axis is wrong, as this is the z axis in 3ds Max.
