3D movie idea
Hey All,
Yes I did a search prior to posting this so please bear with me. I have an idea but wanted to get some feedback. I just bought a projector for viewing home movies. A while ago I bought an LCD 3d home television viewer and a few 3d DVD movies (again utilizing the LCD 3D technique).
For those who don’t know, the 3D in this case works by taking every other frame of an interlaced (60i?) NTSC video feed and synching each frame with a left or right lens of a pair of LCD glasses, while blackening out the other side of the glasses. While this works GREAT on a regular tv, it doesn’t work on computer monitors or… here it comes… projectors. (the reason for this is obviously the interlacing is no more).
My idea is to rip the 3D DVD onto my computer into an interlaced movie, take every other field and export each field by itself (in other words, render only the lower field, then render only the upper field). Finally I was going to bring these two separate movies (one lower and one upper don’t forget) and bring them into a new After Effects composition & apply the “3D Glasses” effect (the red/green option). Of course I’d choose these two movies as my left/right sources within the effect since these are EXACTLY how they are on the DVD.
My problem in all of this is I haven’t been able to figure out how to separate each filter and render ONLY the lower field, then render ONLY the upper field. Everyone with me? Anyone have comments/advice?
