i have made a table in 3d using solids. ive added lights and a cam to the scene and i have noticed there are alot of intersectig layers which stick out like a sore thumb. i couse resize the layers slightly but i dont want any gaps. is there any feathering techniqes or any other way of neatening up my table.

you get this problem when you make a 3d cube.

Try setting the transfer modes to “alpha add”.

You can’t get rid of those seams at all. AE applies the filtering uniformly (as a layer in AE equals a textured infinite plane) without special algorithms for edges or transparent areas. I suggest you use some slight cropping/ feathering. You can easily fix up “holes” by using effects such as MiniMax or Find Edges on your pre-composed 3D table. I know it’s not perfect, but with some fiddling can be made to look good enough. If it’s an option, you should of course consider some 3D-ish plugins such as for instance Digital Anarchy’s 3DLayer – draping a cloth on your table with it would possibly make a good visual distraction.
