First thing: I am looking for a model of an F16 that I can import into AE7 and manipulate with Zax Invig or Cinema 4D, I have found a few and I realise that probably I will have to pay for a good one; right? But what is a good poly-count? I will need a pretty high level of detail but I don’t know what that amounts to.

Also, the markings I need for the plane are pretty rare (Greek Airforce) what is the best way of adapting the 3D model, in AE or C4D?

    Any other thoughts welcome.

Well, take out your credit card and buy one – one with as many details as your budget allows, regardless on how close you are going to zoom in on it. As far as I know, there are no good free ones around. Make sure it has all UV maps set up and comes in a format C4D can import (OBJ, 3DS, LWO). You won’t find anything natively in C4D format, I’m almost 100% sure of that. If it has proper UVs and textures, you should then be able to easily drop in your national insignia in Photoshop… Take care to pick the right sub-type (I believe Greece uses mainly older A and B models and just recently purchased a few Cs and Ds), as today there are over 60 variants of F16s and they all have minute, but often noticeable differences (air duct, exhaust pipe, electronics hump etc.).

3D CAD Browser is really cheap. Not as good as the Squid, but quick ‘n’ dirty.
They have a kind of registration: for example, for $75 you get 5 models. Anyway, see the site.

Many thanks, good advice as always. Unfortunately the producer has just told me that the director has gone back to the original graphics company. Damn indecisive directors.

ps. However, I like the idea of playing around with a 3D model by changing stuff like insignia, what are the chances of finding a free model (of any kind) where I will be able to do this?

Try turbosquid, as said or search on 3dcafe.com in the free stuff section.
