This is how I think this will/should work:

I’ve got two cameras set up that I’m going to tie together with expressions (The pickwhip didn’t work….already tried it….). The cameras will be a certain space apart and share a orientation point. Then, I set up my comp with my 3d layers and animate the cameras to taste. Render the scene with one camera on and render it again with the other camera on.

My problem is that I have no idea how far apart the cameras should be. I did a search through the archives and didn’t see anything that addresses this. Help?

It makes sense to me that the cameras should be the distance as someone’s eyes. Maybe a bit more for dramatic effect. But i could be wrong.

Yeah, it’s supposed to be 2.5 inches apart, but what does that translate to in pixels?

You could try setting up a 3D scene with a lot of depth cues, then adjusting the distance with glasses on until it looks right.

… and if you scale the null up and down, shouldn’t the cameras move apart or closer?

    (haven’t tried it)

There are dozens of 3D video and film production sites on the Web, most are informal.
If you pull this off, you might want to visit some of them and post your success/horror stories.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
