I am editing a project that is using 35mm adapters on a Canon XL-2 and shooting at 30i for a film look (can’t say why/how as I’m only the editor). We are looking to give the film an 18fps old-timey silent film look.

Would this effect be achieved more easily/better if the DP shot progressive or interlaced?

    Thanks all,
    Zatoichi

Most folks consider 24p to be film look while 30p looks like very sharp video. But that aside- either he is shooting 30p which is progressive or he is shooting 60i which is interlaced. Figure that out and you’ll be able to apply effects. For this sort of thing I’d suggest Magic Bullet for Editors or Nattress G-Film.
