Hey everyone … I have an HD project that was shot in 24p and then down-converted to DVCam for the offline edit. I cut the show in FCP 5 on a Powerbook G4 (1.7 GHz with 1GB RAM). I digitized the DVCam tapes at 29.97 and cut in a 30fps drop-frame timeline (this might be the beginning of my problem). We’re now picture locked on the cut and I need to online using the original HD masters…. I’m wondering if I paste my cut into a 23.98fps timeline and then render if this successfully removes the pulldown (which would allow me to at the very least eye-match the cut from the digitized HD footage). Ultimately, I would much rather just take the timeline I have and online straight from there. Maybe I should spit out and EDL and then re-dig using that?

As you can see I’m a little befuddled … if anyone more seasoned than me (and on this board there’s so many of you) feels inclined to make a suggestion, I would be very grateful…

    THanks very much.

I cut like that all the time. The only difference is that after I have the duration of my cut to the required broadcast time (which is why I cut in drop-frame timeline) and everything is picture-locked and approved, I create a new 29.97 NDF sequence and copy paste shots from my picture-locked timeline into that – making sure the 2-pop and the show starts at the correct 1:00:00:00 mark. From there is simply export a NDF edl and then convert that to a 23.98 edl with cinema tools.

    Works every time for me.

    Format of Hd masters?

Were the DVCam tapes tc matched to masters?

Why are you thinking about this now?

    Window burn on DV tapes?

Export an EDL from FCP. Open Cinema Tools. Cancel any query it has about opening or accessing a DATABASE. Go FILE>EXPORT>EDL…30 to 24.

Import that EDL into FCP. Might have issues with speed changes, but that is what I have done.

Just curious. Does that work if the 30fps footage was drop-frame?
