I’m new to final cut but i have 15 years of experience in professional editing on avid and premiere….

I have to troubles to solve.

    1) I usaully work with a very long clip, setting in/out points in viewer and pressing F9 to put one piece after the other in the timeline. My problem is that every time i press F9 i lose “focus” from viewer window and canvas become selected. I have to manually select viewer again pressing Q or clicking on the window to select another piece to edit. This is annoying and slow down editing process. Is there a vay to leave the viewer selected after pressing F9?

    2) If i edit an interview i put lower-thirds with the name of the interviewed. Those titles are all the same but in different pieces of the timeline. If i have to change all the lower-thirds of the same person (for example for a grammatical error) i have to open all the titles one by one and change it. Is there a way to “link” the different lower-thirds so that changing one changes also the others? I tried with master-affiliate relationship but doesn’t work. I have tried both with text generator, with master templates and with livetypes.

    3) is there a way to change speed in a clip in timeline without moving the other clips?

    Thank you for your help……

    1) If you drag the clip from the Viewer to the Canvas edit overlay, the Viewer remains the active window. It does mean using the mouse though.

    2) You need Traffic from xm|edit to do that.

    3) Did you try doing a search for this? It comes up very often and there are a number of ways to do it depending on the result you want.

    All the best,

    Tom
