  • 3 monitor setup, 2 for me one for client…problems

Posted by Jim Eckes on May 12, 2009 at 5:23 pm

I have two monitors and 2 video cards. I’d like to run the minidisplay port out to a client monitor. When I do this, I lose one of the monitors. The only work around seems to be to pull one of the dvi monitors and plug the client monitor in. Then, I can plug in the other monitor for me and I’m good. The problem is that when I get out of FCP to work in another app briefly, I lose my monitor setup in FCP and the viewer canvas strobes forcing me to quit FCP and start the process again.
Is the three monitor, 2 video card setup realistic?

    Thanks,

    Jim

You have 2 graphics cards, not video cards. Graphics cards drive your computer displays. FCP does not like 2 graphics cards.

You really want a true video display for your client. This requires products like the MXO, AJA Konas, AJA Ios and BMD cards.

if you want to go to a client monitor on the cheap the BMD Intensity Pro which is HDMI. The AJA Lhi is a bit more but also does HDMI, SDI Component so as you gro it will grow with you.
    Hope this helps.

Matrox MXO2 mini does everything the mxo2 does (and Kona 3 I think) but sans sdi. HDMI and component. But it’s only $500. Not sure if it’s shipping.

MXO2 Mini will be shipping end later this month for PC, with Mac drivers due end of the month. You also have the MXO2 Mini Max which includes the Matrox CompressHD Max technology for faster then realtime encoding to H.264
