    Hopefully someone can help…

I’ve got several layers in 3-D space at different points on the z-axis. The problem lies in that the layers that are further from the camera, and thus behind or obstructed by layers in front of it, only show up behind those layers if they are layered below the other layer in the timeline.

For example, if I had 2 layers in z-space and I wanted “layer 1” to be in front of “layer 2” — currently, I would need to place “layer 1” on top of “layer 2” in the timeline. If I placed “layer 1” below “layer 2”, then in the comp window, “layer 2” would be in front, even though it’s further away in z-space.

Now, I could be wrong, but I could have sworn I’ve done this in the past where it didn’t matter what the layer order was. Is there a switch I flipped or something? Any adivse would be helpful.

    God Bless,
    Greg

Yes, if you have any adjustment layers in the composition, it will render everything below the adjustment layer first, then everything above, regardless of the z-space. Also, if you have any layer styles applied to any of the layers, it will also create a problem with the order in which it renders things. Make sure to clear layer styles and turn off any adjustment layers to see if that solves the problem. If you do have a layer style applied, you might have to precompose that layer in order to get it to render properly.
