    Hey Guys

My brother and I are editing a 3 camera shoot in FCP. We shot in HDV and synced up our cameras, but the colour in each camera is different.

We plan to use the multicam plugin which we will be using for the first time, but for the sake of matching the colour, is it best to put each camera in its own sequence, colour match the 3 to suit, sync up the clips and then use the multicam plugin? Or should i be doing the color matching at the end? We will be showing the client periodic updates and i want to avoid the colour difference issues.

    Thanks

First you should have white balanced all 3 cameras to the same reference during your shoot. This could have saved you time in the end.

Edit your sequences then color correct at the end.

You could color correct the three 1st before editing, then apply the color correction of each camera to all clips in that cameras bin. A little more work, but it would look better to the client.

Can’t remember the details as I rarely have to do this, but the FCP manual has a great bit of advice on applying filters to Multiclips (or parts thereof) under the Multicam section.

Personally I’d cut first and color later. I tried coloring first once and it didn’t work out ’cause as the cameras zoomed in/out and reframed shots the image changed enough that a one-size-fits-all CC approach didn’t work out.
