    Hi all,

As I mentioned before, I am very new at compositing and I have a project that I need to complete this month.
The shot called for a plane to pass in front of the moon at nighttime.
Of course the director filmed it in bright daylight.
Anyway, I need some feedback about the scene.
I have no one to bounce ideas off of ,so you guys are the only ones who could help me.

    Here’s the link
it’s called full moon day to night conversion https://www.vimeo.com/4641738

    Thanks,
    Lou

It’s hard to really tell all of the fine details in this compressed version, but so far I think it is looking very good. If the director didn’t appreciate you before, I hope he does now. From what I could see you may afford to have some more light spill around the plane from the moon.
Perhaps you could duplicate your comp (but without any of the trees or original footage – you just want the moon and the plane – apply the stylize>glow effect on an adjustment layer. Then bring that comp in to your main comp and mask it so it just shows up where the moon is, then use a second layer of the plane as a track matte for the comp so that the glow only shows up where the plane is and doesn’t blow out the whole moon.
Again, I can’t really see it in the detail I would like in order to make suggestions, but so far it’s looking much better.

    Hi Michael,
First, Thanks for your kind words of incouragement.
I will try what you said to do. Also, sorry for the poor copy, the other problem I discovered is, the scene looks darker on my other pc,which will be another bridge to cross at a later time.
    Bye for now,
    lou

    Hi Dave,

Yes funny story, the “actual” footage for the scene was not the one that is being used. It was a much tighter shot. This scene was shot with a “Behind the scene” HD camera. It was never intended for use. However, it had the better angle. Also, of course (like an idiot) I said, “sure…i can make it work.” 🙂

Also, you should have seen the speed of the plane last week, it was moving like a goodyear blimp (LOL)
    I will make it faster.
    Thanks,
    Lou

I really like the look of it, and it has a fairy-tale quality to it – not sure if that is what you were going for, but it is a great footage for what night would be like for a movie.
