[Paul] “.the point is that when do the Mac zealots hold the company they use and love responsible for making statments that they dont deliver on????”

I would suggest you do some research on IBM, you know, the folks that actually make the G5 processors. They’ve had some articles and press releases over the past year regarding the evolution of those processors. If you stay up on IBM you can have a clue as to when a new G5 might be released and how fast it might be.

[Paul] “what does seem un reasonable are all the people that always have and probably always will support Apple and everything they do, even if they lose the Pro market share because they have decided to be a home media and entertainment company….”

What signs have you seen, even remotely, that Apple will give up or lose the Pro market share?

[Paul] “….the point is that when do the Mac zealots hold the company they use and love responsible for making statments that they dont deliver on???? “

O.K. I now officially hold IBM resonsible for not producing 3ghz processors in the time period that was promised. I also hold Intel and AMD responsible for not meeting the goals of thier 90nm and 65nm processor plans. Everyone hit a brick wall with the move to 90mn.

[Paul] “….what does seem un reasonable are all the people that always have and probably always will support Apple and everything they do, even if they lose the Pro market share because they have decided to be a home media and entertainment company…..”

[MrVideo] “With the probably entrance of dual core 4.0 Ghz Pentium chips, this looks really bad for a company that charges a premium price for the name. “

You’re so right…I’m a complete idiot for beleiving that I can continue to make money editing on my dual 1.42 G4. I wasn’t planning on upgrading until next year, but I should face reality and run out right now and by one of those dual core 4 ghz Intels or AMD boxes that MrVideo mentioned, and start doing some real editng.

The problem is they don’t exist…and probably won’t for a long while. In the next few weeks Intel will likely announce their dual core processors at 3.2 ghz and AMD will likely announce dual core chips at 2ghz. Lets get a grip folks.

Oh, and I don’t pay a price premium for a name, I pay it for better software and better integration with the hardware. I pay it for Apple’s attention to detail and a better user experience, with less pain and no viruses. I pay it for FCP and Motion and DVDSP and Panther and Tiger. To me that’s worth the few hundred dollars more that I paid vs. a PC box.

But it’s a moot point, after tomorrow you’ll be squarely back in Apple’s camp…until the buzz wears off, and then you’ll start bitchin’ again.
    Are you Cubs fans?

Um Tim, you should read all of my posts, I make good money using my system as is….and I dont plan on changing because Macs are slower than their PC counterparts…funny that I also predicted this would be the response from a bunch of people that no matter what would NEVER put down Apple….your smart ass comments really are pointless…but its a free country, so be my guest…..everyone likes to think that what they have invested in is the best that money can buy…you sound like an Avid zealot when an FCP user says anything about Avid as a company or its practices…..but the reality is that companies make mistakes and screw customers on a regular basis, this is not to say that I feel that way about Apple, but I would never marry myself to a tool, I use whatever Im hired to use for the job, my preference is FCP due to the interface just feeling more intuitive, but give me an Avid and I will use it….

and no Im not a Cubs fan, in fact I find baseball boring as hell, go to a hockey game, now thats a real sport, or at least it is when they play it….

[Paul] “I know its just rumor, but wow, if this is the case….um…..200mhz in 8 months???!!!! Are you kidding me? And also rumor is that it WILL NOT be dual core…..Apple needs to stop getting high off of the iPod profits and start making damn powermacs for professionals that are using their “professional” software and trying to make a living….its really hard to stay on a system that is slow compared to every other PC even though I am in love with all of the software……”

You had me there for a minute Paul. With all your “!!!!” and your CAPITALS and your “damn” and your “love” I thought you really cared.

    Sorry about your season…
    there’s always next year.

[Walter Biscardi] “What signs have you seen, even remotely, that Apple will give up or lose the Pro market share?”

It’s not that they will lose market share, it’s that they make user support secondary –users who invest in their exclusivizing software and hardware. Apple has done some things that upset users and software developers. One thing was release the a FCP version promising multitrack audio support using 3rd party cards, an intermittent feature at best. Burned the hell out of us many times. Glad it’s being addressed. Also, have you media managed lately? As far as developers, we’ve talked to several who say that Apple provides a great deal less priority support for developing professional applications. This is well known, but not “documented.”

Apple is first a consumer, music, entertainment company. They are decidedly a second “pro apps” company. It’s not a complaint, more a fact.

What is a drag is that we’d like them to pay more exclusive attention & that’s why I hope NAB will contain that responsibility we want Apple to embody.

Cool, an intellegent response…thk you for not saying I should just not buy Apple products.

“Apple is first a consumer, music, entertainment company. They are decidedly a second “pro apps” company. It’s not a complaint, more a fact.”

This I couldnt agree with you more on, I find it interesting, and understandable I suppose that everyone here would never dare think this, because who wants to believe that youve spent thousands from a company that doesnt care about its pro market…but the fact is that the iPod and products like this are the focus and future of Apple. I say all of this, like I said before because I love using FCP and the lot, and Im concerned…thks.
