24PN vs 30PN
I have a question, and nobody can seem to give me an answer. I have a Panasonic HVX200. When I shoot 24PN, the time on the cards nearly doubles. I know the reason for that, is because it is recording without the pulldown, so it is getting rid of the additional frames. What confuses me, is why then if I shoot 30PN, I get the same amount of storage as if I am shooting 24PN? It has no frames to remove. So confused.

Let me confuse you more. There is no removal of frames in PN mode. When you shoot 24pn, it records exactly 24 frames. When you shoot 30pn, it shoots exactly 30 frames. PN (native frames) only records frames needed.
24 pn = 42 minutes 16 gb card.
30 pn = 34 minutes 16 gb card.No need to be confused. P2 cards takes the worry out of pulldown (removal of frames).

The 720p standard is 60 progressive frames, so you should see around double the run time when shooting 30pN and more than double with 24pN.
Right now on my HPX500 I have:
43 mins available at 720/24p or 720/30p or 720/60p
84 mins at 720/30pN
104 mins at 720/24pN-Adam

Actually, according the the HPX300 manual it removes them internally before writing to the card. So they can use the same some of the same circuitry as cams that don’t do PN.
