24PN to DVD audio sync issues
Hi all, sorry if this has been discussed before, but I may just be using the wrong search terms.
We have an entore project shot on P2 at 24PN that needs to be delivered as an NTSC DVD. In the Avid, all the audio syncs up fine, but on compression in Sorenson, the audio and video lose sync in the mpeg (I think the video plays faster than the audio).
I can only imagine this is a common issue that I hope has an easy workaround. I noticed on another thread someone imported footage into a Premier CS3 project and exported a virtual P2 card that was converted.
I would love to NOT have to do this. If someone knows of a previous thread about this, I would be most appreciative of a link.

dunno what the N stands for in 24PN, but if you work with DVD and 24, the encoder should be able to work with that.
If all is well, only 24 (actually, 23.976) frames per second are encoded, and the player will add the pulldown.
How far off is the audio? If it’s just a bit, is it a DF / NDF issue?
If it is off straight from the start, probably your encoder thinks it’s 30…Bouke

Are you editing at 23.976 and 48kHz? The encode should take this with no problem. Make sure the encoder is set to add pulldown flags for the 2:3 insertion back to NTSC during play.

I knew it had to be something simple, and it was Sorenson. Sorenson has this weird way of not letting you change the presets, but in reality you can, if you make a new one from scratch, and the frame rate was set to 29.97, which I was just assuming what all MPEG-2’s needed to be.
I MUST remember that I am smarter than the computer!

By the way, the N in 24PN stands for “Native” I beleive, and you can only get it with P2. It only records EXACTLY 24 frames per second – it’s a great space saver, but I’ve found it to cause a lot of headaches for editng, especially when trying to mix with different frame rates and formats like SD and 1080i.
