24p workflow. Kona LH vs Compressor?

Without an external hardware converter that converts either HDMI or Firewire to HD-SDI or analog component video, you won’t be able to use the Kona LH to capture directly from the camera. If you have the Kona LHi (which has HDMI), you may be able to use it to capture to ProRes directly from the camera.

For video not in 24p, just standard 1080i60, I currently connect the camera with the cable provided from Canon to the AJA Kona breakout box (with 3 BNC adaptors) to component video (SMPTE/EBU N10) and analog audio (with 2 XLR adaptors) and am getting great results with Final Cut Pro = [AJA Kona LH:1080i 29.97 Apple ProRes 422 timeline].

I am not sure what all the rage is with 24p but thought I would give it a try, so am looking at either converting with my Kona LH if that is possible or another way.

There is an option in the AJA control panel to convert to 1080sf 23.98, 1080sf 24, or 1080p24. The Canon HV30 manuel says that the video is “PF24”, which I don’t know which of the 3 Kona options matches PF24.

Looks like I would need the Kona 3.

Maybe I will look at a new camera first.

I don’t understand why you think you need the Kona 3. It would be the worst product choice since it is digital only, and you wouldn’t be able to come in through component.

I think part of your problem comes from the fact that Canon HDV cameras do not truly record in 24p. It does something as it records 1080i60 to emulate 1080p24.
