I’m new to editing with 24P footage. The problem I have is when my production guy sends me the AVI’s and I import into a new DV-sized 24p Widescreen composition, the footage is interpreted as 4X3, and is letterboxed with black bars at the top and bottom. Same thing if my composition size is 4X3. Is this a camera setting issue, capture issue, or do I need to interpret the footage differently in AE? Thanks for your help.

You need to interpet the footage as widescreen. (file>interpret footage>main). Then you drag the footage onto the “new comp” button at the bottom of the project window, and a new comp with your footage settings will be created.

Make sure the footage is widescreen though — before importing into AE, it should be fullscreen, but squashed. No letterbox.

It could simply be that your editor exported them incorrectly as letterboxed instead of 720×480 with 16:9 pixel aspect ratio

I believe the 100a can do anamorphic, actually.
