I’ve been editing HD for about a year now without any serious problems. My workflow has simply to load my 24p clips, shot with a Sony F-900 directly into FCP via a Kona3 board. Editing is done right in FCP-no off lining first-just right into the final edit. Since I’m the offline and the online editor and I have the disk space-why not load the clips right off the bat? Yes?
    Now…
I have a client that who would like me to on-line his project for him. He would like to get either VHS or DVD window dubs of his footage to do a paper off-line. My question is this:
When I make the window dubs, downconverting out of the HD deck to an SD 29.98 format, what happens to the time code that will be in the window? I’m starting with 23.98 material going to 29.97 dubs. Will the timecode on the windows be accurate for his paper edit and just how does this work out with the two different frame/timecode rates? Just how does the timecode from 23.98p translate into 29.97 accurately?
    Inquiring minds want to know…
