    Hello,

I’m watching a playback of some 24P footage and when I go thru it frame by frame, I’ve noticed that the 5th frame is repeating. It is in a 29.97 anamorphic timeline being played on G4 powerbook. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

    Thanks.

When you look at any 24-frame material on a progressive display (ie… powerbook screen, lcd) you won’t see the interlacing that is inherent in 29.97 video. They best way to see the pulldown in a 24P or 24PA clip is to look at it on an interlaced monitor (Television or Broadcast Monitor). Nattress also makes a 3:2 dectect plugin to check cadence. If you want to see only the progressive frames, run the clip through Cinema Tools and do a reverse telecine to true 24.

Thanks! I looked at it on a monitor and it looks great. I appreciate the help.

Sounds like you used the default output from compressor – which is adding frames to make the 24frame content playback at 60 fields and it is using a 2:2:2:4 cadence where every progressive frame makes 2 fields of interlaced video , with the last 2 frames being duplicated to get enough to generate that required number.

If you laying to tape -your video card should be able to handle the pulldown, if you are going to disk leave it at 24 fps (actually 23.98)
