    Hi,
I’m working with DVCpro 50 footage, shot in 16×9 in 24p. My question is this: if it is never going back to film is there any reason to edit in a 24p sequence? Do I need to capture the footage 24p? Or can I capture and edit at 29.97 with no problems? I’ve read Ken Stone’s article, which is great, but I’m still a little unclear on this.

    Thanks!

Do you want to make a 24p DVD, or has your broadcaster specified constant cadence? If so, then you need to edit in a 23.98fps timeline and either use that direct to make a DVD or add 3:2 pulldown back in after editing.

If neither of the above interest you, and you didn’t shoot in 24pA (which must have it’s pulldown removed), then just capture and edit as normal NTSC.
