24p footage from firestore losses frames on import
Hi all,
I hope someone can offer some suggestions. I’ve imported 24P footage that I shot on an HVX200 recorded at 720 24P setting on camera and Firestore. The footage has all of the frames when looking at the timecode on the Import P2 page. After the footage is imported, it losses frames at the beginning and end of each clip. I AM checking the box to “remove duplicate frames” at the bottom of the Import box and understand that frames are suppose to disappear, but the problem is, when I put the clips side by side on a 24P timeline, I’m missing a frame in between clips and naturally, the video/audio jump. BTW, if anyone is wondering, the clips need to be reassembled because if you shoot a scene more than 2 minutes long, the Firestore automatically divides the clip into 2 or more clips, depending on the length of the original scene.
So there it is. The manufacturer of the Firestore passed the buck to FCP, so here I am.

This is a know issue with the firestore. Dropping between 1-6 frames as it switches partitions on the drive.

FYI, this doesn’t happen when recording goes from one P2 card to the other, so it is firmly a Firestore issue.

Thanks for your reply, and your suggestion. I tried posting there yesterday and haven’t heard a peep. Would you know why the frames are on the Firestore, but vanish on import? If not, no sweat. Just getting frustrated at this point. So much for “state of the art”.

I don’t know much about the firestore, but I know there’s some step you have to do before import called collect footage or collect frames, something like that. Did you do that?

My first step was to “Organize Clips” on the Firestore, before connecting to my Mac. Then, upon importing from the Firestore, the diologue box has the option to “remove duplicate frames”. I checked that as well. Those are the only 2 things that I can assume you’re referring to. If you think I missed something, please let me know.

Organize Clips, that’s it. I did some reading and it seems that it only happens when you check the remove duplicate frames box.

I think that’s right, but in order to edit on a 24P timeline, I believe you must choose this option. I had to render the clip when I didn’t check the box and then tried to add it to my 24P timeline

You can remove the pulldown afterwards with the Panasonic frame rate converter.

you have FCP 5.1? It’s on your install disk. if you have FCP 5.04 then you can download from Panasonic.
