    Hello,

I am building a new system and wanted some opinions on workstation monitors. I have the option of going with a single 30″ 2560 x 1600 resolution or 2 24″ monitors at 1920 x 1200 for a combined total of 3840 x 2400. Desktop physical real estate is not a factor. The dual 24″ solution is less expensive and offers more screen real estate. The panache of a single 30″ is certainly enticing.

I will be using Premiere Pro and After Effects on this system.

How does Premiere Pro 2.0 with its new scalable interface like dual monitors compared to a single?

    Thanks

    Ray

    [Ray] “2 24″ monitors at 1920 x 1200 for a combined total of 3840 x 2400.”

It only spans in one dimension, either 1920×2400 stacked or 3840×1200 side by side, You want to get a WSmonitor with a HDTV input that has PIP capability, I use a 1920×1200 with a 1600×1200 side x side spanned and use the PIP as a preview while working and can switch to full screen preview.

You don’t even need to “span it”…you simply undock the panels and place them in various monitor spaces (I’ve never liked the timeline stretched between monitors myself.) I use PPro, AE, Encore and Audition in this way.

I use three UI monitors…a 24″ flanked by two 17s…my 30″ is my video overlay monitor.

It works fine. In other apps like AE, Photoshop and Carrara, the 30” is added to the desktop…lots of space to stretch out.

[Tim Kolb] “You don’t even need to “span it”…”

I was refering to spanning the desktop, the new premiere works better with floating objects like you describe and the timeline on one monitor.

Ah…sorry, completely misinterpreted the post. You are of course, correct.
