I apologize if this seems obvious but I’m a novice with Final Cut HD. I’m capturing a show shot in HDV using the Kona LHe 720p 59.94 DVCProHD easy setup. Of course this means I’m bringing in analog audio through our mixing board. My question is in regard to audio levels. My tendency in the past was to bring in 16 bit audio using -12 as my reference level on FCP’s internal monitor. The easy setup defaults to
24-bit audio and the FCP manual says that this should be brought in using a -18 reference level. Is this correct? If so, when I mix back to tape should I aim to keep all levels at -18? Thanks, as always, for all of your help.

Levels have no direct relation to sample-rate.

-12 is the same peak at 24 bits as it is at 16 bits.

Work with the levels your final user desires.
