I’m shooting with the Sony Ex1 1080 24p, transferred to .mov through XDCAM Transfer, then using MPEG streamclip to convert to 24fps prores 422 files. I’m also shooting with Cannon 5D taking the footage and doing the same conversion to 24fps prores. My question is my editing base in FCP is now exactly 24fps as opposed to 23.98 if I didn’t go through MPEG streamclip. What is the advantage to editing in a timeline base of 24fps or 23.98.

I know audio must match up but as far as final output and other issues whats the difference.

Most likely my final output will be blue ray or HDCAM.

23.98 allows for realtime downconversion and playback on NTSC systems.

use 23.98, it will make you life much easier, many displays show sync or judder issues with 24.0 content.
