23.98 HD to SD workflow
Hello Folks,
I’m looking for a way to capture an (1920×1080) 23.98 HDSR tape to a (720×480) 23.98 DV/DVCPRO data clip, using only FCP.
Is there a solution? Or do I have to down-convert the HDSR to 29.97 NDF DV/NTSC tape and then bring it in FCP and do a reverse TC to take out the pulldown..
Must be an easier way.

A Kona will do this for you.

If you’re dealing with HDCAM SR, then I’d also recommend the Kona 3. Otherwise, you could digitize it at 29.97 and remove the 2:3 pulldown in CinemaTools. (Just make sure it’s an actual 2:3 pulldown and not some other conversion).

Also, Compressor now has a rev telecine feature. It works very well, in my limited use with it. It depends on your clips, but if you have a consistent cadence, it finds it and removes it very well.
The Kona will do this in real time to whatever NTSC frame size/codec you want, though.
