23.98 HD Footage won’t mix on 29.97 Timeline
My 23.98 HD Footage won’t drop into a 29.97 1080i timeline that also contains 29.97 footage. I have narrowed this down to the audio not being accepted by the 29.97 1080i timeline, for when I strip the audio off of the 23.967 ProResHQ clip it goes into the 29.97 timeline fine. I then tried doing an “Import to the Media Standard and Codec” of just the audio that was brought in at 23.98, and it was also brought into a 29.97 timeline fine. Does this mean that the video and audio have to be matched to the intended output rate during import as well, and cannot be just dropped into a 23.967 or 29.97 timeline after the fact as one can with Final Cut and have the audio not be rejected? That rather significantly limits ones flexibility. Is the video media fast imported or is it also recompressed into a new ProResHQ file when one does it this way? That would be a big waste of space. Will do some testing, but would really like confirmation before I start a large project that requires both frame rate standards.
PS
Just tried doing an “Import to the Media Standard and Codec” with video and audio ProResHQ 23.967 footage, and it still won’t go into the 29.97 1080i timeline. This is with Suite 2.1. I thought mixed timelines was going to be a feature of 2.x? Any ideas?
