I have a little question about settings. I have 23.98 HD footage that has been dubbed to DVCAM (which I am assuming is always 29.97) for the off-line and I am just wondering which frame rate I should be digitizing and editing in. I will be exporting an EDL for the on-line which I believe is being done on an Avid DS/Symphony Nitris HD edit suite. I am working with FCP 4.5 on a 1.67GHZ Powerbook running 10.3.9 with 2GB of RAM.

    Thanks Galen

Use the DV/NTSC Easy Setup and capture at 29.97fps. Then use Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown to get the footage to 23.98.

You need to determine what the finishing frame rate is. If you are finishing 29.97 (59.94) then the offline should be fine.

    BUT

If you want to finsih 23.98 then you are going to have to be able to access that TC for the online.

If they telecined to HDCAM or HDCAM SR or D5 at 23.98, then yes, it should match back. It would be advisable to get WINDOW BURN TC dubs of the footage so you can double check your TC numbers.

We did indeed telecine at 23.98 to HDCAM and the DVCAM dubs have the window burn TC so that shouldn’t be a problem. We are finishing on HDCAM at 23.98.

    Thanks for the help!

A quick follow up. It might be a dumb question, but after I remove the pulldown, should I set my sequence settings at 23.98?

    Yes.
