    I have a 23.98fps project.
When I export the audio from that project (to aiff or wav, using compressor or quicktime conversion (pretty much anyway I could think of)) and then bring the audio back into the SAME project, it is out of sync with the audio I just exported. It starts off in sync and ends up about 5 frames out by the end (over about 3.5mins).
If I now export both audio and video in one file (ie. a quicktime movie) and bring that back into the same project it is perfectly in sync.
If I then use Quicktime Pro to export the audio from the Quicktime that was in sync and then bring that back into the exact same project it is again out of sync.

So basically Final Cut Pro seems to have a problem in keeping the audio-only in time when exporting and bringing it back in. Have you ever noticed this and do you know of any way that it can be avoided or resloved?

I’ve had this same problem when trying to import Pro Tools session audio back into FCP. Search keywords “23.98 drift” from last month and check out some of the replies.
After many headaches, the only solution or workaround, as you figured out, is to attach the audio to a 23.98 quicktime. That’s what we’ve been doing out of Pro Tools and it works every time. Any AIFF, SD2, or WAV import will drift over time when importing to a 23.98 timeline. What we don’t know is if it’s a FCP issue or a Pro Tools issue.

Thanks for the reply the other thread was helpful. Just didn’t search far enough it would seem.

As I have not ever used pro tools I would guess it may be a FCP issue.

    Thanks again!
