When I capture DV shot in the Advanced Pulldown Mode of the Panasonic DVX 100b and end the capture before the tape reaches the end, my new clip has the correct frame rate: 23.98. However, if the tape is captured to the very end and stops itself, the frame rate of the new clip is 29.97. I’ve made it a little easier on myself by limiting the capture time to 55 min and manually captureing the last five before the tape runs out.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem, or is it just a FCP glitch?

    Thanks

    Jeff

Yes, make sure your tape doesn’t reach the end.

Logging and capturing is the best way to digitize tapes as you will avoid this and many other problems.

The frame rate turns to 29.97 even when the tape encounters a timecode break. This is a very time-consuming process because I have to keep recapturing clips and hitting ESC before it reaches the time-code break. This seems like something FCP really needs to fix.

Pulldown removal is based on consistent pulldown cadences. A timecode break will mess up that cadence. You really need to log and capture your tape appropriately. If you do this in advance, it will save you the headaches you are trying to quell now. FCP won’t digitize well over a timecode break even if it’s not trying to remove advanced pulldown.
