digitising 23.98fps HD into a SD NTSC film project (using 3:2 pull down on down convert) FCPro 5 has problems intermittently with the footage – skipping frames and duplicating frames so fps is correct but picture steps horribly.

other times digitises perfectly fine – tried different decks and confident not a problem with the down convert. FCPro seems to be having problems locking up to Timecode.

I am inputing using a blackmagic board on a brand new 2.7Ghz G5 (2Gb ram) lacie external FWire 800 drive (pleanty of space)

I’m a little uncertain of your workflow. I would think making a Digibeta from the HD first, and digitizing that would give you a more solid souce. Is the deck feeding live NTSC downconvert + live NTSC timecode to FCP?

yes down convert feeding straight into deck. I’ve worked like this on Nitris before and nnot had any problems – Blackmagic claims to support live down convert on playback to feed SD monitor etc… so figured wouldnt need to transfer to Digi.

just appears to be hit and miss sometimes captures fine then other times not. so having to load in 10minute chunks to keep an eye on it and got 70 odd hours worth to sit and do. TC continuous on source so planned to load in one tape at a time – now i got to sit and baby sit the whole thing.

if it works solmetimes surely it should be able to work ALL the time??
