But conform is not useful in this scenario as it will speed up the 24p to make it run at 29.97 putting a massive pitch shift on the audio and making the action run fast!

AH the differences abound, most of the content I work with treats sound and image as separate entities ( from film masters with DAT audio), this is not an issue.

To solidify Graeme’s comments on adding the 3:2 back from a 24p timeline– FCP will attempt to do this after a render – with less than spectacular results.

However the AJA Io you list in your sig will handle that option for you when you play back to tape as there is no 24p on tape and as you know in TV land the NTSC signal is always 29.97 / 60i for playback.

I can see you using “confrom 23.98 to 29.97” as a special effect as it will make for nice fast motion, and that’s a handy trick. It’s also useful if you’re doing a 24p project and want to do some subtle slo-mo by shooting 30p and conforming down.

I took a look at the IO manual and it doesn’t mention 24p, 23.98, 3:2 pulldown or anything remotely like that. I know FCP only adds pulldown on DV playback, and I think it does so (or is at least meant to for DVCProHD playback to the AJ1200a). Can you cofirm that your IO will play back to tape from a 23.98fps timeline and produce a correct 3:2 pulldown in the process??? If this is so, perhaps AJA should advertise the fact??

looks like “23.98 frame rate support” is coming soon:

At NAB 2005, AJA Video has announced that all KONA and Io products will support Apple

    Graeme,

Some of my archival footage has been transferred with reversed fields. Do you have a plug-in that just reverses fields, without reversing the action too?

G Field in Set 1 will do that. Best try the demo and see how it works for you.
