2 Vegas 7 Q’s….
Posted by Randall Clarke on September 26, 2006 at 9:03 pmFirst, can 7 edit divx video ???
Second, do the labels of presets you select stay instead of reverting to untitled ? Ie. if you select remove loss hiss in the eq, the next time you go in, it says untitle or something like that…this is a real pet peeve of mine and is not congruent with how good the program is….

September 26, 2006 at 9:13 pm1. Yes – if Vegas 6 or Vegas 5 or Vegas 4 could. It’s a matter of having the proper codec installed. Out of the box – No. YOU have to get the proper codec installed.
2. No. Why would it? A preset is exactly that – a series of settings. Once the settings have been made, it’s done. Then you modify those settings. Would you still want the preset name shown even though it makes no sense any longer? Also, what if multiple presets were made with the same settings – WHICH one would you show?

September 27, 2006 at 5:40 amOn your first question, I’ve had some experience editing DivX videos with Vegas 6. He’s absolutely right, you’ll need to have the right codec installed. But there’s one other thing. With most DivX videos, because of the nature of the way their sound is encoded, Vegas won’t have the sound synched properly when you place it on the timeline. Fortunately there’s a fairly easy workaround. You just need to use a separate program to create a .wav file from the DivX file’s sound. Then import the video to the timeline, delete the sound track, and import the .wav version and line it up with the video on the timeline. Now you’re ready to edit DivX.

I have had all the codecs installed from divx 4 – 6.2 over the years. Also ffdshow. Been using vegas since version 4….The program simply doesn’t work with divx. Sometimes I get video, it crashes, sometimes just audio…I’m trying this simple little editing program which works flawlessly with divx so something is just not right with the way vegas handles divx. if I can play divx, then the correct codecs are installed no? I’m playing all iterations of divx flawlessy on all of my 5 computers yet it won’t work in Vegas ? me thinks its vegas…
as for your comment jeditdv re the displaying the setting properly, I’m at a total loss on your comments…If I select a preset, close the window and go back in, I want it to read the preset I selected…I mean how on earth can you figure it makes sense to say untitled ? It should read the current preset its on…i guess if you change a preset and don’t save it with a different name, then it should say untitled…since I suspect none of this is convincing for you, I can email you a project which a chain of effects, they will all read “untitled” and you won’t know whats what – correct ? or I’m I missing something because logically, they way they do this is incorrect….

No, I understand exactly what you’re saying. But, logically, it really doesn’t need to. You pick a preset, it makes the changes defined by that preset – period. Really no reason to remember WHAT the preset was – just the settings defined by that preset. I also understand your desire to have it remember – there’s been a few times when I also wish it did.
