My dear neighbors are going to start trying to edit down their home movies shot on Mini-DV. I’ve suggested they go to Vegas Movie Studio which seems to be the best bang for the buck. Besides I can help them since I use Vegas 5. I understand that Vegas 5 etc. much prefers that the program be on one hard drive and the capture be to another. Does Vegas Movie Studio have the same constraint or can my neighbors get by with just one physical hard drive?

They may be able to get by, but having DV media on the system drive is asking for trouble.

I once made a movie that was 10 minutes long (piece by piece) on a hard drive that only had 1.5gbs of space! For the type of projects they are doing they should be fine. They should be disconnected from the internet and make sure no automatic programs or updates such as Norton can occur during the process.
