  • 2 different display LUT over 2 SDI out?

    Posted by Gabriele Turchi on October 4, 2010 at 12:19 am

    Hi all,
    I am wondering if in resolve is possible use 2 different SDI output out of the blackmagic card (both as 4:2:2) using 2 different display LUT(rec709), the reason would be have 2 different calibrated monitor (mine+the client),or i do need 2 HDlink before the monitor to load the LUTs

    Thanks

    The best to achieve this is to use 2 HDLink Pro and load a LUT on each. If you are using Resolve to generate or tweak existing LUTs, they are saved in the .cube format which can be loaded on the HDLink Pro.

    How exactly you imagine it ?

    You have 1 io card with same output. There is nothing to do with Resolve. Even if resolve could do it
    yo still have one io not 2.

    Well physically the sdi output connector are 2 ,
    In SCRATCH for example I can configure the 2 sdi as a dal link 444 or as a dual (same) 4:2:2…
    So I thought that would be possible sending 2 lut over the 2 (cloned) output .

    It has its own SDI out usually i belive ?

    God knows how it is done there. Regular io does not have 2 separate lut support as far as i know even if
    software would do it.

    Hmm.. well.. The Decklink HD Extreme 3D has two channels. SDI A and SDI B. Interesting idea. Not sure if it’s possible though. Food for thought!

    I would go with 2 hdlink as both have more dedicated control.

    At the moment i miss separate scope instead of soft scope.
    Soft can do it but dedicated device would be better i think.

    You could pull it off with only 1 DL extreme 3d, and 1 HDLink pro, though the implementation is pretty messy:

    DL card (with 3dLUT1)-> – SDI1 – Displ1
    DL card (with 3dLUT1)-> – SDI2 -> HDlinkPro (with 3dLUT2) – Displ2

    3dLUT2 profile would of course be generated on top of 3dLUT1. At 10 bit, this may/may not cause a bit of banding, will drift much faster, and will also be a PITA to correct for. But theoretically its an option.
