I was creating a motion menu using after effects and encore CS3.I was using the encore help menu instructions:overview of animating a menu with after effects. I created a still version in encore and then created a compositon in after effects. The 3 button sets were automatically created each as a nested composition.

My 1 minute motion background was 1 composition that had 8 layers of 720×480 AVI video footage all playing one after another. It also had 2 still images. A couple of the cuts had level and color adjustments and one layer had a turbulent displace effect.

I then nested that into the main comp as my background layer and the nested button comps were above that layer.

When I rendered the main comp at my usual best settings AVI no compression, it was nearly 2 GIGS. Does this seem correct? It works great in previews, but I haven’t rendered the DVD and I am concerned about menu maximum sizes in encore.

Sorry for the long post, but any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply Dave, can’t imagine how big it would have been if the clips were in hi-def.

You could even transcode the menu vid ahead of time in encore and then delete the 2gb original, as after transcode encore links only to that version.
