  • 16×9 footage captured as 4×3 needs to go as 16×9 on dvd

My client gave me a drive with all footage on it and I have completed editing it. The problem is that the footage was shot in 16×9 2:3:3:2 advanced pulldown, then captured as DV 2:3:3:2 4×3. Is there anything I can do to have this exported as widescreen for DVD Studio Pro without causing distortion?

Export the movie as is and then tell DVD sp to display the movie as 16×9.

You can also select all of the clips in the project and select teh ananmorphic checkbox in the browser.

FYI technically all DV material that is shot in Squeeze mode is actually 4X3 on the tape. It then needs to be unsqueezed to be displayed int eh correct 16×9 aspect ratio.

Thanks for the response, but I have tried that. It leaves the tires (black bars above and below the 16×9 footage) and includes that in the squeeze. Below is a link to a screen capture I took. The video on the left is with anamorphic checked and the one on the right is of the footage as I currently have it. Am I just misunderstanding something?

Ananmorphic footage needs to be edited into an anamorphic timeline. If you change the settings after the fact you end up with this sort of result.

The correct thing to do it set all of the footage to anamorphic and then edit in an anamorphic timeline.

If you have already edited then you need to create a new sqequence that matches your footage seetings and then copy paste the old sequence into the new one.

not quite true. you can alter a sequence that has the wrong aspect ratio, or clips within it that have the wrong AR. Change the sequence to your final aspect ratio. double click a clip that is wrong, and go to the distort section in the motion settings tab. This controls the aspect ratio. For a 16×9 clip iin a 16×9 sequence it needs to be ‘0’. For a 4×3 clip in a 16×9 sequence it needs to be ‘-33.33’ (or just 33.33, i always forget which). Then copy that clip and paste attributes ‘motion’ to which ever clips are wrong.

for a nested clip you need to highlight nested clip and press return. This will load it up in the viewer and then you can alter the distort settings for the entire nest.
    cheers

    Nick,

This is indeed an advanced way of doing the 16×9. I was trying to explain the concepts in a simpler way.
