16mm footage on dv between FCP and AE
andrewdbHi, hopefully this has an easy fix.
I’m working with FCP 5.1.1 and AE 6.5
I had footage transferred from 16mm film to mini-dv, which I captured in FCP and set up a 720×480 project. There is a small amount of black space (maybe 3 pixels) all along both the left and the right side of the footage from the telecine. I have some AE work to do on a few clips, so I exported those clips. When I bring them into a 720×480 AE composition, it’s as if AE is trying to automatically correct the footage to get rid of the black from the sides, and the clips seem stretched those few pixels, with the bounding box just wider than the composition on the left and right.
I’ve tried simply resizing/aligning the clip’s bounding box with the comp, but it does not integrate perfectly with the footage in Final Cut, and I don’t want any distortion no matter how minute.
My pixel aspect ratio in the FCP Sequence is set to NTSC – CCIR 601/DV (720×480)
In AE it is set to NTSC D1/DV NTSC (0.9)
I’ve tried various methods of exporting the footage from FCP, including making quicktime movies (both self-contained and not) as well as testing the footage from the actual capture scratch, and I get the same results each time.
I’ve been messing with this for too long and I feel like I must be overlooking something.
Any help with this would be very much appreciated!
Thanks,
Andy
