16:9 with correct dimensions and compression
864×486 is not a compatible size for DivX compression OR Nero burning to a DVD. (Keeps giving me an error)
Now when it’s 720×480 it works fine but looks squeezed.
How can I burn 16:9 so it can be burned at a relatively small file a with Nero without giving me some sort of error? Nero doesn’t accept .mov files and I’d prefer .avi either way.
I just used uncompressed .avi’s but they always end up being around 4-7 gb! And that is far too large. Can someone help me out? I’d greatly appreciate it.

DVD format (NTSC) only supports 720×480 video. The only difference between 4:3 and 16:9 is the Pixel Aspect Ratio. 4:3 is 0.9 PAR, and 16:9 is 1.2 PAR.
So your 720×480 video should look squeezed, but when you encode it, you tell it that it is widescreen, so when it is played back on a dvd player, it stretches it out to 16:9.

In the pictures did I choose the correct settings for 16:9 then? Also if not how can I make sure its 1.2 in the rendering?

Well I told Nero it was 16:9 with the 720×480 project and when I burned it, played it back it was a letter boxed/squeezed look inside of the television. It didn’t look good at all. How can I make it 16:9 if it’s 720×480? 16:9 is 720×405

I also have the same problem…
I’m working with Dv Wide format from Canon’s Hv-20.When i’m in after Fx, i can’t set the proper ratio to have a decent preview of my project, fine i can live with it and i’m starting to understand that editing is 1:1.
But when i’m trying to render the file there is no way i can get back my 16:9 PAR flag out of AFX (i had the same problem in Premiere).
Is’nt there a software that can simply add the PAR flag 16:9 to any video container/encoding ? Its obvious that my source have that flag and comes out without it.. same thing in premiere.
I’ll probably find out soon or later.
This forum is nice but sadly i’ve read many thread without any good solutions for this situation. I’d just like to have a solid solution to render my 720×480 lossless segments out of AFX cause i’m gonna finalize the montage in Premiere Pro.
Anybody out there have succesfuly made a costum rules for 720×480 16:9 ?
