16:9 Source to 4:3 Export
I have an 8-Bit Uncompressed Quicktime file, which when I click Get Info shows me a 720×486 aspect ratio. It’s a 16:9, standard definition file.
When I import into FCP6, it tells me there are no sequence presets for it. And no matter what settings I try I always get an image which is horizontally squeezed (not as wide as it should be). Since we’re going to DVD, I assume this is the stage to create an animorphic 16:9 image within the 4:3 signal. The original source is not like this, I guess, so how do I get there? Especially when FCP doesn’t recognize the source to begin with??

In the bin score until you see the anamorphic column and then check it. Make sure the sequence has this checked also. This has to be done before you place the clip onto the timeline.
