    Hi All,

Sorry to post this here, but I’m sure a ton of people have used the 1200a in this forum. I’m cutting a DVCPRO-50 project shot on the SDX900. I have a 1200a rental to capture the material.

It seems to capture DV tapes without much fuss. However, when I change my auto-setup in FCP to DV50, FCP gives me the old “cannot find this source” error. I’ve read the manual from cover to cover and have the camera set to 1394 input. If anyone knows of a good trick to get this to work as friendly as, say, a DSR-11, please let me know.

I originally requested a DVCPRO50-only deck (figured I didn’t need the 1200a) but somehow this is what was rented. Guess they got a good rate – wish they had shot 720p! On that note, has anyone up-converted with this deck? How well do you think anamorphic footage shot on the SDX900 at 23.98 would look upconverted to 720p?

    Many thanks,
    Michael

You have to set the vtr menus to output dvcpro 50 via firewire as well as have the proper FCP capture settings for vtr control and capture. If the two are mismatched you will have a problem.

It’s all in the manual under the menu settings or you could request the rental house set up the vtr for you.

I’ve upconverted before. It looks pretty decent. Not the best, but not terrible. You can’t go from 23.98 to 23.98 though, you will be editing 720p60, not 720p24.
