August 13, 2005 at 1:21 amIs it 1:1 or DV? They are not the same.
DV25 411 (or 420 for PAL) is native DV resolution – that’s what’s stored on the tape. So for capturing DV-originated footage, DV25 over firewire is good.
But 1:1 is better if you are adding graphics or effects.

August 13, 2005 at 1:22 amFireWire, the decompress is done in the digital domain to 1:1 uncompressed 4:2:2 to the hard drives.

August 13, 2005 at 5:37 pmI tested once the difference between the sony decode of a Dvcam source (DSR 1500)and a Avid software decode. I remember thinking if there was a difference and if pushed I’d go with the Sony Decode (Which I have done ever since). The difference for me was the use of SDI rather than Component.
I’d recomend a quick test.
