1080pa24
Posted by Alex Viarnes on April 27, 2006 at 7:18 pmCan anyone direct me to info on how to edit 1080pa 24 footage from HVX200 in FCP 5.1 ? I’ve read the late breaking news pdf but nothing specific there.

April 27, 2006 at 7:26 pmYou have to import the footage and remove the advanced pulldown. Set your sequence up for 1080 23.98 DVCPRO HD and edit away.
What problems are you having?

April 27, 2006 at 11:47 pmI import the files and remove duplicate frames, In my bin they read as29.97fps intead of 23.98. I’m using the dvcpro hd 1080 23.98 setting in the easy set up but when I try to load those settings to the sequence settings the QT compressor setting goes to 1080i50 instead. when I try to playback the video stutters. Help !

April 28, 2006 at 1:13 amhave you made a new timeline with which to put in your media? If it’s showing up 29.97, you are doing something wrong. If you have a 1080i50 sequence, you have done something wrong. Walk me through what you are doing.

April 28, 2006 at 1:27 am1. create new project
2. use easy setup and select Blackmagic HDTV 1080psf24-DVCPRO HD
3.Import P2 w/remove duplicate frame selectedAt this point in my bin I have sequence 1 at 24fps but the clip is at 29.97. I know that when I check the file in camera it says 1080pa24.

April 28, 2006 at 2:20 amI figured it out…FCP applies a pull down to the footage, that is why the 29.97 fps.

April 28, 2006 at 3:02 amMAKE A NEW SEQUENCE (sequence 2) and drop in footage. What happens then?

April 28, 2006 at 3:12 amThe footage is recorded in 29.97, so it might show up 29.97. When you remove the pulldown frame, you should be left with 23.98. FCP does not add pulldown to the footage that you just removed the pulldown from (that’s what ‘remove duplicate frame’ means, remove the pulldown). Your sequence/media should be 23.98. That’s the whole point. 24p, no pulldown.

April 28, 2006 at 7:42 amI don’t think that is the case. It does not yet support 24P. it does add a pull down as far as I can tell. It is as if you had tecined your film. I’m open to suggestions but now it is playing beautifully !

April 28, 2006 at 3:15 pmAgain, The media does not have a pulldown added to it. If you go through your media frame by frame, you should see that you have 24 progressive frames. FCP or your decklink most likely, is adding the pulldown as you play out. The whole point of shooting 108024pa is to remove the pulldown to leave you with 24p media. It is not a telecine, as that would have a 3:2 (normal) pulldown, not a 2:3:3:2 (advanced) pulldown. I’m glad it’s working for you.

April 28, 2006 at 5:42 pmFCP does not support 24p and I think that the way they have supported 24pa is probaly a short term thing. taking out the extra frames on import and then adding pull down that I can clearly see in the timeline.
