1080p HD footage not running smoothly??
I have Vegas pro 10 with the newest update. Whenever I try to edit HD footage the playback in the preview screen from the timeline the video is very spotty and choppy and it also changes from good/half to preview/auto. I’m thinking this might be an issue in preview settings however I can’t figure it out.. I posted some pics below of my setup.
The video files are from the new Cannon G10 and they are in 01080p 24fps and .MTS

Right click in the preview window and choose “Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback”.
Then switch it to your desired setting and it won’t change on you any more. -
ok thanks that worked… so now why does the footage run choppy and it happens especially when it plays with transitions.. I have one clip dissolving into another and the playback is so bad I can’t tell how the footage really looks because it’s so choppy

agh nevermind I set the preview screen how you said and it’s still switching back to preview mode!

My apologies. What I meant to say was to disable that feature, not select it.
As far as choppy playback is concerned, what are your computer specs?
If you don’t have a fairly powerful machine, you’ll never get smooth playback with FX and HD footage. -
I’m running NVIDIA GFORCE 550 TI video card
1TB HD, 8GB RAM, 2.80gx processor -
I know its Vegas because I have used other editing software and it works great… only with Vegas does it not play smoothly

Is your other software back-leveled by two versions and as old as Vegas Pro 10.0? You are using software that is two versions old with a brand new Cannon G10. If you want to use the latest cameras, you should use the latest software. I would download a trial of Vegas Pro 12.0 and see if it handles the footage from your camera better. Vegas Pro 11.0 and 12.0 added improvements for handling DLSR footage.
