    Hi all,

I have some 1080p 59.94 fps GoPro footage that I need to ingest into Avid. I’m working in MC 5.5 on a Mac tower. When I go to set up the project to import the footage into, the only options are 1080i/59.94 and 720p.59.94. Does anyone know if there’s a way to bring in this footage without changing the aspect ratio and frames per second because I’d like to keep it at the source format?

Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to read this.

    Kind regards,
    Parisa

1080p 59.94 is a non-standard frame rate. It really only exists to allow you to shoot high speed video and then slow it down…making smooth slow motion. The standard 1080 frame rates are 29.97 (1080i59.94) and 23.98.

There is no delivery method for 1080p 59.94. BluRay doesn’t do it, the web doesn’t do it…TV doesn’t do it. Therefore the only reason to shoot it is to slow the footage down to 30fps (29.97) or 24fps (23.98). That might be something you have to do outside of Avid…like using the GoPro Cineform Studio application to convert the footage to the speed you want. That will slow it down. It does convert the clip from MPEG-4 to Cineform, which is a great codec. But Avid will need to again convert that from Cineform to DNxHD.

The GoPro Cineform Studio is a free application.
