    I have a client who shot most of his footage at 720p 23.98 in P2 and then converted everything to 1080i23.98 ProRes HQ. The sequence is a 1080 23.98 ProRes HQ.

    They had an HPX 900 owner shoot some footage and he shot it at 1080i 24p. But he did not shoot advanced, so I am having trouble removing the pulldown with a digitize.

    I have the 1200a deck and we tried a bunch of workflows to get the 1080i 29.97 footage into FCP as 23.98. We had FCP set correctly, the deck on 23.98 frequency, and it seemed to work, but although the clips came in and said 23.98 they still had the two interlaced frames along with the progressive frames. It wasn’t getting the pulldown right, clearly because it wasn’t flagged with the advanced pulldown when shot.

    I tried uploading a 1080i 29.97 clip and brought it into compressor to remove the pulldown and create the 23.98 ProRes clips but no success there either. Compressor is not much help with the Advanced Conversion settings.

    Since it wasn’t shot at the 24Pa setting am I hosed getting this to 1080 23.98 ProRes HQ?

    I did a bunch of searching here and the Kona forum but no one had exactly the same issue.

    How about Nattress standards conversion on the 1080i29.97 footage? I do have that, but what is the easiest workflow?

    Thoughts are welcome.

    I stumbled upon this. Does this look like a workflow that could work in my situation, except that it was shot on the HPX 900?

    In Final Cut Pro, Log and Capture your clips shot as 1080p24 from the HV20 using the Easy Setup named “HDV, 29.97, HDV – 1080i60 FireWire Basic”.
    In Compressor, choose Add File and navigate to the capture scratch folder for the clips you captured and open them all.
    Select the first clip in the batch.
    Choose the setting named “Apple ProRes 422 for Progressive material” (found in Settings tab > Apple > Other Workflows > Advanced Format Conversions > Apple Codecs), and drag it onto the first clip.
    Double-click the setting on the first clip to highlight the Inspector window.
    In Inspector > Encoder Settings > Video Settings, change the framerate to Custom, and enter 23.976.
    In Inspector > Frame Controls, enable Frame Controls and make the following settings:
    Set Frame Controls to On
    Set Deinterlace to Reverse Telecine
    Click Save As to save this setting with a name such as “HV20 HDV 24p to ProRes 24p”.
    Add this new Custom setting to all your clips and submit the batch.
    The resulting clips will be 24p and can be edited in a 24p sequence in Final Cut Pro with no interlacing or cadence issues.

    Yes that’s probably the best way to do it. Compressor’s reverse telecine can automatically detect the pulldown pattern (cadence) for each clip.

    This will only work with camera footage. If you edit in 29.97 and export/master something new, the cadence will be broken and not even Compressor can repair it.

    Boy, I didn’t think reverse telecine in Compressor would work, but lo and behold, it all worked beautifully.

    Got that old pesky 1080i 24p footage into 1080 23.98 ProRes HQ in no time.

    Yeah it’s a new feature that came with one of the ProApps updates. Thank Jeremy G for bringing it to everyone’s attention a while back.
