1080i / Broadcast Question
Hey Everyone,
I need to supply a TV spot in either of these ways resolutions and framerates:
– 1080i (29.97)
– 1080p (23.98)
– 720p (59.94)I set up my main comp to the 1920×1080 HDTV 29.97 setting in AE, which I believe is 1080p. Does anyone know how to convert it or export it to 1080i? Not sure why the 1080p would only allow 23.98 and the “i” version the 29.97.
Also, which would be the better version to deliver? I tried dropping the comp into a 23.98 comp and it looked choppier, obviously. This is my first real TV commercial so any help appreciated! My experience is more animation/mograph for web and social… not broadcast!

Composition add to- adobe media encoder…thats where you can change all these settings more easily

Thanks. So I can literally just downsample/downgrade to 1080i no issues? Will it still look good? (Hope so!)

Oh you wanted to downgrade to 720p…I thought you wanted 1080 Interlaced…but yes either way media encoder is the answer…just note that in media encoder 1080 i is interlaced.

No, I def want to make my 1080p to 1080i, I figured that was “downgrading” but maybe I’m wrong.

Yes, there is live action. Its all stock footage, some at 23.98fps and some at 29.97fps.
The question is, what will look better, keeping the 29.97 framerate and exporting that to 1080i with the same framerate… or throwing my main comp into another comp, changing that framerate of that “container” comp to 23.98 and exporting to 1080p?

Thanks Dave. I don’t really see another way around things considering the stock footage was what it was (different frame rates); I had to mix it. Also the live action footage is used in artistic ways, its not really full screen and “in your face.” It seems bringing an exported 1080p MOV into media encoder and making a 1080i MOV looks OK. Anything wrong with that? Also, I’d prefer 1080 resolution rather than 720. Do I have other options?

Oh I should have also mentioned I even have a 25fps video in there as well. I thought AE takes care of framerates for you and adjusts accordingly?

So if you have a project with multiple stock clips at different framerates, what would you do? Real world = not everything is shot with the same camera / framerate.
Also, what can I do if I want to still have 1080 resolution? I only did a test file that I told you about (media encoder 1080i), I have some time so willing to fix things to make it right.

This is a motion graphics piece. I just looked and I literally have texture footage, live action footage and literally have 23.97, 25, 29.97 and 30 fps videos all being placed into a 29.97 main comp. Things look ok when I export to .MOV 1080p 29.97. What I’m worried about is the file I need to convert for broadcast. So its really that main aforementioned movie that needs converting.

Dave, ever work with big household name clients that have art directors and producers select stock footage you have to use? None of this is not being smart. This was a messy project before I got involved. I have about 30 different required clips, all varying frame rates and resolutions and on a tight time crunch. I’m using many of them as artistic elements and textures. No time to convert them all as some are only up on screen for a second. Just not worth it for what, a few dropped frames? And you don’t just convert each video without expensive services or software I don’t have. Any converting I do will have to be on adobe.
Either way, if I check the preserve frame rate in the comps holding the footage, is that a work around? Seems it would still have to convert somehow if the main comp is 29.97.
The CC and trafficking pub said I can supply them with a 1080p, 29.97 ProRes, which was my original question.
