I wish it wasn’t so, my Mac is not the chill box it was back when I was 10.3.8.

How do I quiet the fans?

    Thanks 🙂

This question comes up periodically, so I just tried a search and found this thread in the archives:

One of the updates caused my really quiet fans to suddenly sound like a jet taking off, I tried the suggestion that Tony! gave and it worked for me, although I’ve had to reset the preference with each update since then. Something in the updater seems to reset it to a default that makes the fans really loud.

If you’ve already done this, then I have no other suggestions.

search on apples site for “CHUD tools”, they may also be on your installation disk and be installed if you install xcode and all developper files.

Anyway, CHUD ads a control-panel to the system preferences where you can set a few processor-options like “allow nap” or “use only 1 processor”.

I’ve disabled “allow nap” because if it’s on, I can hear the graphics card whirr with a very high pitch whenever I drag a window in the finder.
    (yeah I know, it’s weird)

But it might solve your problem too.
