10.1.2
Posted by James Ewart on June 30, 2014 at 1:08 pmHi
So I can still set storage location to Library and import proxy files (leaving originals in place) to my laptop (for example) and then revert to using full rez optimised media she I come back to base and copy my project version back to the main Pegasus Raid drive?
Somehow seem to have muddled myself.
Thanks

June 30, 2014 at 3:59 pmCould somebody run me through that workflow please? I have the project on a Pegasus RAID drive with original clips in an external folder or managed library (but not both) and I want to make a duplicate with proxy media to put on my laptop to take away for a couple of weeks and then come back and update project to main drive.
Many thanks
James

June 30, 2014 at 5:09 pmIf you select your library and open the inspector, you can set the location of your proxy files. Then when you transcode the proxies, they’ll go to that location.

July 1, 2014 at 7:19 amOkay so a two step process then. Import to external then transcode media to create proxy files having modified the storage location. Apologies as I a think I am kind of double posting this by mistake.

It doesn’t have to be. Prior to ingest, if you set the location for your proxy files, then you can have X make them at the same time it’s ingesting your full rez originals.
The full rez goes to one location, the proxies go elsewhere and Bob’s your uncle.

July 1, 2014 at 9:31 amThanks for this.
That’s the thing I don’t think I get.
And perhaps I am trying to do something the wrong way anyway?
I cannot see an option for importing Proxy clips to a different destination to the Original and Optimised files.
Only other workflow I can find (apart from transcoding the pProxy media after already importing Original media to an external folder) is Import everything to the Library and then Consolidate Media Out to external folder but not check the Proxy Media option thus leaving it in place in the Library.
So could you walk me through how to send Original, Optimised and Proxy files to different destinations at the original import/ingest stage please?
Many thanks again

Bottom line: if your original media isn’t on your disk yet, then you’ll have to import first to the desired external location, then switch the library properties back to the (local) library and create your proxy. You then can simply disconnect the external source, switch to proxy and use the generated files for editing. When done, reattach the external media and switch back to Original/Optimized for output.
