The real damage here is to the Apple Runic Diviners who were so convinced that updates must come on Tuesdays or Thursdays (given the proper heavenly alignments, of course)

    Friday late afternoon!?!

    The cheek.

oh, perhaps they allowed the dev team some form of global stoppage time to account for world cup fever and all?

That’s squarely on me- I’m probably one of the founders/high-priests of the “Rule of Tuesdays” meme.

To be fair, I never thought that updates on other days “couldn’t” happen, merely that they hadn’t. The stats don’t lie!

    10.0.0 – 2011.06.21 Tu
    10.0.1 – 2011.09.20 91 DAYS Tu
    10.0.2 – 2011.11.16 57 DAYS W
    10.0.3 – 2012.01.31 76 DAYS Tu
    10.0.4 – 2012.04.10 70 DAYS Tu
    10.0.5 – 2012.06.11 62 DAYS M
    10.0.6 – 2012.10.23 134 DAYS Tu
    10.0.7 – 2012.12.06 44 DAYS Th
    10.0.8 – 2013.03.28 112 DAYS Th
    10.0.9 – 2013.07.30 124 DAYS Tu
    10.1.0 – 2013.12.19 148 DAYS Th
    10.1.1 – 2014.01.16 28 DAYS Th
    10.1.2 – 2014.06.27 162 DAYS Fr

While maintenance updates had come across the week, feature updates were squarely on Tuesdays. 10.1 was the sole discrepancy coming on a Thursday, but that was a simultaneous release with the MacPro- so I chalked it up as an exception.

With today’s Friday release of 10.1.2 perhaps the Tuesday rule IS gone the way of the Dodo.

Hey, I’m thrilled it the update dropped today. Thrilled to be wrong!

Obviously I was totally teasing and like you, Marcus I am delighted it dropped today.

These library oriented enhancements are getting me more and more excited.

It’s like they saw clearly that the biggest difference wasn’t ever going to be making X work more like the NLEs of the past, but rather in allowing a super wide range of types of both individual editors and facilities the flexibility to access the X magnetic editing engine and adapt it to how it best fits the workflow they need.

Libraries, Managed Media, Referenced Media, and now this built in system to easily target and inspect and Consolidate into and out of diverse local and external pools of storage … It seems at once very collaboratively oriented, yet for a solo seat editor, not one thing is lost or wasted if you want or need to work in a monolithic managed media single seat mode.

Seems pretty well thought out to accommodate not just different types of editors, but editors who might want to switch in and out of the different modes. Maybe complex referenced workflows for the big doc at work, then doing managed for a one-off job or personal project on the side?

    Options are good.

Does anybody know if it is possible to keep the old clip naming system of date and time?
I find that so much better than clip #1 or whatever the clip’s original name was and I am hoping there is a way to change it back, but I have not found it yet.
I organize clips in finder after capturing and then bring them back into FCPX which works well for my workflow and I don’t want to have to change it if possible.
For now I’ll keep a copy of 10.1.1 on the mac just to capture with.

Yes, you can still get the names in FCPX to use the older method. Now it keeps the original camera filename instead.

    It’s: Modify -> Apply Custom Name -> Clip Date/Time.

(The camera filename will remain however the camera named it but the clip within X will change to those settings.)

But that only changes the name within X, I want to be changed in finder.
