  • 10.0.4 Can’t get audio to export

I am working on a large project involving about 12 hours of edited footage (a conference we recently shot) and yesterday set compressor to export all of my projects to ProRes 422 overnight, like I usually do. Today, when I checked the exported footage, the video was fine but the audio was completely silent. I have tried exporting the projects again, this time to AC3 files, and again got the same result, both by going to Compressor and straight from FCP. The only thing I could get to work was exporting straight from FCP as an AIFF file. I’m scratching my head here trying to figure out what is causing this. It only showed up after I upgraded to 10.0.4.

    *Update*

After a bit more experimentation, I’ve determined that the format I’m exporting to doesn’t seem to matter. The problem seems to be with sending a project timeline that uses Multicam to Compressor. If I export straight out of FCP, it works fine. (I think the reason exporting to an AC3 didn’t work is because it was using cached files from the job I had just sent through Compressor; after exporting an aiff and shutting compressor down an export from FCP straight to AC3 worked just fine). Sending a project without Multicam to Compressor still seems to work ok, so I’m thinking the issue has to do with the way Compressor is parsing the Multicam audio. Again, this has only started happening since the update to 10.0.4.

This could be a major problem if it isn’t fixed soon, as nearly everything I do uses multicam audio tracks, and sending to Compressor is the only thing close to a batch export we currently have. Has anybody else experienced this?

Has anybody else been able to get audio to export through compressor correctly after 10.0.4? I have now confirmed this is happening on two different workstations, one running Lion and the other Snow Leopard. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I just discovered this problem the hard way, exporting about 15 15-minute pieces which were all multicam and there’s no audio in the first 40 seconds. Really strange. Some of the issues I’ve found thusfar with X are pretty discouraging…

The bug seems to be unique to 10.4. The 10.5 update that just came out *appears* to have fixed it. I’m going to check the next few projects I do just to be sure, but the issue was almost 100% of the time before the last patch, and I haven’t seen it show up once since.
